It is during natural disasters - like the hurricanes in southeast or the devastating fires in northern California - that we prove once again, to ourselves and to the world, that compassion - the desire to help alleviate the suffering of others - is an essential characteristic of any noble society.

 

Where to give?

Charity Navigator  is a nonprofit agency that researches and ranks charities on a four-star rating system based on specific criteria including: tax status, revenue, length of operation, location, public support, and fundraising and administrative expenses. The following charities received at least three stars for accountability and four starts for transparency.

Head Start efforts

National Head Start Association has established a Disaster Relief Fund  to assist Head Start programs and/or their employees with disaster related costs not covered by other relief assistance.

Region 9 Head Start Association has launched a Pack N Learn Campaign  to provide Head Start children affected by disasters in California, Florida, Puerto Rico and Texas with care packages that provide personal and learning essentials.
